Can Art Empower Journalism?
“Bread and roses”. The labor slogan traces back to a speech by the American women’s suffragist, Helen Todd, and a 1911 poem by the same name. It points to the need not just for fair wages but also dignified conditions.
Our view is that art has a vital role to play with journalism. Art amplifies and transforms our reporting. It brings beauty and emotion to sometimes dark truths and cold facts.
For this investigation, we recruited muralists and musicians from around the world to interpret the reporting and render it in their own aesthetic.
The results were gorgeous and powerful. Please take a look and listen for yourself.
