From fisheries and aquaculture to global commerce, the externalities of consumer and governmental decisions are marooned at sea, resulting in countless environmental and humanitarian injustices that are out of sight and out of mind.
Today, in honor of the United Nations' World Oceans Day, we've partnered with TeaLeaves to bring you a discussion on the fishing industry with GreenWave's Bren Smith. Here we learn from one another’s creative approaches to spread awareness about sustaining healthy and productive oceans, featuring our most recent investigation out of Gambia.
You can also show your support (and up your style) by exploring the Bracenet x The Outlaw Ocean Project collaboration. The Outlaw Ocean non-profit has teamed with Bracenet, a German company that creates handmade bracelets from upcycled fishing nets, for our first-ever merchandise. A portion of the proceeds for this “bracenet” will go towards funding more of our journalism and help support the Healthy Oceans fund.
