What Can Be Done?
A New Compendium Summarizes What Companies, Governments and Individuals Can Do To Counter Problems at Sea, According to Various Stakeholders
At the Outlaw Ocean Project, we investigate and report on crimes at sea. And while others have ideas on how to stop these crimes, they often disagree with each other.
Still, it’s useful to see the diversity of their views so that the public can feel empowered about ways to act on the journalism we produce.
The Ocean Actions Index is a compendium of policy solutions or steps that could be taken as suggested by a variety of stakeholders. This tool may be of interest to consumers, lawmakers, advocates, voters, journalists, or anyone else interested in the issues that we tackle.
Several important notes of context about this compilation: Quite intentionally, these are drastic (and sometimes contradictory) simplifications. The writing is meant to be extremely concise and plainspoken. The content does not represent a policy stance by our organization. It is reporting intended to cover the variety of solutions and actions. The proposed actions are divided between three actors: individuals, companies and governments. The final section of the document offers a fuller explanation of the context surrounding some of the issues. The topical focus is diverse largely because so too is the issues that the Outlaw Ocean Project investigates.
